TheYEFwasestablishedin2008asapartnershipbetweentheDemocracyAlliance(DA)and agroupof  alliedfoundations.Throughleveragedgrantmaking, YEFworkstoengageyoung peopleincivic life,buildtheirlong-termparticipation,and  helpsecureapermanent progressivemajority.Since  its  creation,YEFhasraisedand  re-grantedbetween$2-$3million annually,enablingcoordinated,strategicinvestmentsinthe  youthcivicengagement organizations;supportingtoolsand  productsthatcreatekey  economiesofscale  forthe  field; leveragingaccesstodata, analyticsand pollingcapacity;and  supportingonlineand grassrootsactivitiesthatbuildlong-terminfrastructureincommunities.

 

The  DemocracyAllianceisanetworkofdonorsand  movementleadersthatishelpingbuild thefoundationofasustainableprogressiveinfrastructure. Since  itsinceptionin2005,the  DA hasdevelopedamechanismfor  collaborativefundingthatprovidesorganizationsmuch neededmulti-year,generaloperatingsupport.  Together,DA  membersare  helpingstrengthen the  progressivemovementthroughintegratedplanningand  strategicexecution.

 

POSITIONSUMMARY:

 

The  Directorofthe  YouthEngagementFunddevelopsand  implementsanambitiousgrowth strategywiththe  goalofatleast  doublingthe resourcesraisedand  re-grantedtothe  youth civicengagement field.TheDirectoroverseesacomprehensiveplantobuildthe  political powerofMillennialsby  strengthening,scaling,and  increasingthe  effectivenessofthe  existing youthvoterregistrationand  Get-Out-The-Vote(GOTV)infrastructureand  supporting strategicyouth-ledissue  advocacycampaigns.YEFisdesignedtostrengthenhigh­ performingorganizations,buildcapacity,supportcollaborationamonggroups,and  investin new  and  innovativestrategies for  reachingand  engagingyoungpeopleinelectionsand issue campaignsthatimprovethequalityof  life  for  the  Millennia!generation.

 

The  Director,inconjunctionwithdirectorsofcomparablefundingeffortsdesignedtoincrease the  politicalpowerofotherkey  progressiveconstituencies (women,AfricanAmericans, Latinos,etc.),will  play  animportantrole  inshapingthe  DA'songoingapproachtoinvestment inthe RisingAmericanElectorateand  will  lookfor  opportunitiestobuildjointprogramming tocapitalizeoncurrentdemographicchangesthathavethe potentialtobuildastrong, sustainableprogressiveelectorate.

 

The  Directorreportstothe  DA'sManagingDirector,and  worksdirectlywith the  Fund's Advisory Boardcomprisedofagroupofindividualand institutionalfunders thatsupportYEF.

RESPONSIBILITIESINCLUDE:

 

    Finalizeand  implementanambitiousfundraisingplan  toat  least  doublethe  current level  ofsupportYEFreceivesfromindividualand  institutionaldonors.

    Incollaborationwiththe  DA  Boardand  staffand  the  YEFAdvisoryBoard,develop grantmakingstrategyand  fundingprioritiesthatreflectthecurrentorganizationaland fieldcapacity,gaps,opportunities,and  needs.

    Developgrantmakingrecommendationsfor  investmentsthatmeetthe  Fund'sgoals and  objectives;includingcriticalneedswhichmay  ormay  not  be  met  by  existing organizationsin the  field,capacity-building/trainingneeds, and  research/evaluation.

    Communicateregularlywiththe  AdvisoryBoard,orchestratingboardmeetings, developingagendasand  materials.

    Identify,cultivateand  maintainworkingrelationshipswithnational,state,and  local youthcivicengagementorganizationsand  allies  and fundingpartners.

    Preparegrantproposalsand  reportson  the  fund'sprogress.

    Regularlyreportonprogresstowardachievinggoalsusingdatadrivenmeasures.

    Ensurecompliancewithall501(c)3 and  50l(c)4laws.

 

  QUALIFICATIONSINCLUDE:

    Atleast  10years  of  professionalexperienceinissue,candidate,civicengagement, progressivepolitics,and/orphilanthropy.

    Provensuccessat  fundraisingfor  short-termand  long-terminitiatives, specialprojects, candidates,and  campaignsfromindividualdonors,foundationsand  corporations.

    Demonstratedexperienceworkingsuccessfullywithhighnet  worthindividualsand foundations.

    Strongrelationshipbuilderand  communicatorwithexperiencedevelopingstrategic plansand/ordevelopmentstrategies,engagingpartners,and  workingwithaboard.

    Abilitytoaccomplishcomplexassignmentsrequiringcross-organizationalcooperation and  demonstratedresultsinbuildingstrategicalliances.

    Deepunderstandingofand  strongrelationshipswith existingleadershipinyouthcivic engagementfield.

    Highlevel  ofpersonaland  professionalintegrity,strivesforexcellenceinher/hiswork, and  hasexperienceof  leadingotherstonew  levelsofeffectivenessand  programmatic impact.

    Passionateaboutthe  Fund'smissionand  abilitytopromoteand  communicatethe philosophy, missionand  valuestoexternaland internalstakeholders.
