ReThink Media is a unique nonprofit media shop dedicated exclusively to building the communications
and messaging capacity of think tanks, advocacy organizations, experts and allies working toward a more
constructive U.S. foreign policy, in support of human and civil rights and in strengthening our democracy.
The organizations we serve represent the foremost leaders, thinkers and organizers in the fields of
disarmament, conflict prevention, peace and security, human and civil rights, and in addressing the undue
special interest influence.

We provide the collaboratives and groups that we serve with regular access to public opinion research,
media coverage analysis and message development resources specific to each of these issues areas.
We provide our member organizations with access to a state-of-the-art media database and press
distribution system accompanied by a suite of on-line media tools and technologies to enhance their
presentation to the media and to improve their collaboration and coordination. We provide ongoing
consulting and training in critical media and communications skills and direct communications support to
a number of ongoing collaboratives, campaigns and rapid response initiatives.

Research & Media Monitoring Associate:

ReThink Media seeks to recruit a Research and Media Monitoring Associate with a strong commitment
and passion for the issues that we work who is eager to put their proven analytical and communications
skills to work to support the groups and collaboratives that we serve. Primary responsibilities include
the tracking and analysis of all publicly available opinion polls and the ongoing monitoring and analysis
of all news, opinion and online and social media coverage of the issues we work on; assisting with the
tracking and maintaining of shared press lists of the key national, state and regional outlets, reporters
and columnists; and assisting in the writing and presentation of all of the materials developed as part of
this analysis. The Associate is also responsible for providing our member organizations with one-on-one
training and assistance in setting up individual media monitoring and clipping service to track and analyse
their organization’s media coverage.

Additional responsibilities include the ongoing maintenance of our in-house public opinion database, our
exclusive Journalist Profiles database, and our media monitoring and news analysis platform; assisting
senior staff in developing and maintaining a wide range of shared press and contact lists; and in working
with each of our teams to provide direct media outreach, pitching and communications support to our
member groups and campaigns. As necessary, the associate will also work with ReThink interns and
fellows on a project-by-project basis, to assist in the above tasks.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES:

The Research & Media Monitoring Associate is a full-time position based in either our CA or DC office.
The position will require modest travel to conferences and training workshops, and staff and planning
meetings. The associate will be responsible for the following principle duties. Specific goals will be set
annually and quarterly corresponding to each:

Monitor and track all publicly available opinion polls relevant to the core issues addressed by ReThink
Media and its’ member groups. This includes using a previously established system of alerts and daily
news search tools to track and alert key staff and member groups to any breaking opinion polls and
maintaining and advising as necessary additional subscriptions to outside polling services.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Update ReThink Media’s public opinion database and public opinion library with all new polls. Assist in
developing the tagging and search systems within the database and library to enable ReThink’s staff
and member groups to easily track and analyze any polls that are relevant to specific topics and/or
issue areas.

Become expert in using our professional media analysis platform. This includes monitoring and
ensuring the accuracy of the data being brought into our portals, ensuring the ongoing accuracy of the
coding and sourcing of content, and developing a high level of sophistication in the available charting,
graphing and analytical tools ReThink uses in developing our analysis, reports and presentations.

Assist in the maintenance, research, and development of our ongoing social media monitoring tools
and resources and work with each of our teams and campaigns to integrated social media analytics
into all of our ongoing media and opinion monitoring and analysis.

Work with senior staff and respective team members to draft and develop the final written content of all
of ReThink Media’s opinion, messaging and media coverage analysis and presentations. This includes
longer-term media coverage and opinion audits, real-time media audits in response to breaking news
and campaign coverage, and media and messaging strategy documents.

Assist ReThink staff in tracking all top print/online reporters and bloggers that write on the issues
ReThink covers. This includes tracking the stories and the reporters that write on them, updating press
lists in real-time, and updating the news feeds, reporter profiles and ReThink reporter intel available to
groups in our exclusive Journalist Profile database on a weekly basis.

Provide ongoing training and assistance to groups in building press lists, utilizing our online journalist
profile database, and setting up and utilizing our state-of-the-art media clipping service to monitor
coverage of their organization and its key spokespeople.

Assist in the ongoing development and maintenance of shared media lists including, but not limited to,
lists of the top reporters for each issue area, lists of the top breaking news contacts, broadcasts lists
and lists of key Capital Hill staff and communications contacts.

When feasible, provide short-term support to senior staff in responding to communications requests
from organizations or in providing crisis communications and rapid response capacity. This often
includes assistance in tracking new stories, in researching and building new press lists, and
assistance in pitching and following up with reporters.

Assist each team and work with interns and fellows on an as needed basis with other longer-term
or ongoing projects which have included compiling and sending out the morning news clips, project
assistance in producing our annual guide to the “Journalists You Should Know,” and other campaign
and event support.

Experience and desired skill set

Minimum 2-5 years experience in research and media analysis or tracking, social media monitoring and/
or public opinion analysis or focus group research.
Strong commitment to the issues we work on and the groups and sectors that we serve.
Strong research and analytical skills.
Strong writer and analytical thinker with the ability to adapt to new conditions, assignments and deadlines
Strong team player with initiative, resourcefulness and desire to work hard
Strong attention to detail and organizational and administrative skills.

Expertise or experience in the use of news monitoring and social media tracking tools.
Experience in the use of a professional media database, vocus, salesforce, webex, lexis, and/or
mailchimp a plus.
