M+R Strategic Services is looking for a Senior Associate who is cross-trained in social media and media relations to join our Communications & Advocacy division.

M+R is 100 smart people who help nonprofits achieve real, lasting change. We mobilize supporters, raise money, and move the media, the public, and decision-makers. We only work with clients we believe in. We take risks. We work hard. We’re leaders, we’re organizers, and we don’t stop until we win.

The right person for this job will have 2-3 years of demonstrated experience in media relations, with an emphasis on social media. We need a communications know-it-all who wants to help progressive, public-interest nonprofits like the American Lung Association, ASPCA, MacArthur Foundation, Humanity United, and other groups reach their audiences, advance their issues, and change the world.

As a Senior Associate, you’ll be responsible for leading a mix of social media and earned media implementation efforts for M+R clients, using the tools of digital media and the tried and true best practices of media relations to advance our clients and their causes across online and offline channels.

You should be adept in digital media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Google+, blogs, and so on—able to help filter through all the things our clients could be doing and hone in on what they should be doing to reach their goals.

You should have experience and understanding of media relations implementation, and the best practices for earning coverage of issues, campaigns and organizations at the local, regional and national levels.

M+R is an equal opportunity employer; people of color, people with disabilities, women, and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people are encouraged to apply.

All applicants will be considered without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, sex, marital or parental status, disability, gender identity or expression, age, or any other basis prohibited by law.

You:

·         Have 2-3 years of professional social media, communications or campaign experience.

·         Understand the value of social media, as evidenced by both personal and professional experience.

·         Can point to audiences you’ve grown and engaged on social media channels—for yourself, or for clients/organizations you’ve worked for.

·         Can point to successful implementation of one or more public relations or media relations campaigns.

·         Have great examples of your best social media writing and other content in action.

·         Are an avid follower of social media trends and news.

·         Understand the value of analytics.

·         Can articulate your ideas in writing and in meetings.

·         Are a collaborative team player who takes (and gives) feedback constructively.

·         Set priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. You have a strong sense of ownership and urgency over projects.

·         Are self-motivated, highly organized, and personable. Actually, you’re kind of awesome and amazing.

·         Bonus! You have direct experience developing and implementing paid strategies across social platforms.

The Job:

·         Drive awareness of our clients and their issues by helping develop and lead implementation of social and earned media strategies and campaigns.

·         When presented with a client’s goals, create and articulate smart ideas for how the tools of social media and the best practices of earned media can help achieve those goals. This may include conducting research, writing initial strategic briefs, contributing to scope and planning documents, and making presentations to clients.

·         Produce effective content for earned and social media, including top-notch writing (e.g., media materials, such as press releases, op-eds, and creative social content).

·         Contribute to the development of social media best practices for the team. Stay abreast of new trends and internal testing results and use that knowledge to inform your work and educate other staff.

·         Articulate solutions and sell ideas to account teams.

Salary, Benefits and Some Perks:

We offer a great salary and benefits package: three week of vacation as well as sick and personal days; generous health, dental and vision benefits; 401(k); Flexible Spending Accounts for medical, dependent care and transit.

The Fine Print:

You can work from one of the following M+R offices:
