The Institute for Market Transformation (IMT) seeks a seasoned, results-oriented Development Director to build upon our stable, growing funding base and lead IMT’s development program to the next level. This position is vital to maintaining IMT at the forefront of market-based solutions to today’s climate and energy challenges. The Development Director will lead the implementation of an integrated development strategy, working with senior IMT staff, the Board, and our many partners. They also will steward relationships and manage development activities for IMT’s base of current foundation supporters, while cultivating future opportunities for government, corporate and new foundation donors. The position reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer.

Responsibilities

Strategy

·         Design and implement a multifaceted development program that robustly supports our mission, and that serves to expand and diversify IMT's donor base and pipeline.

·         Craft the organization's development outreach materials;

·         Expand IMT's donor base to increase our visibility, impact and financial resources;

·         Act as a liaison in conjunction with the COO to the Board of Directors on fundraising issues.

Grants Management

·         Identify prospective foundations aligned with the organization’s mission and programs. Will include prospecting through databases and online sources, and matching program goals with grant opportunities and/or managing others performing this task;

·         Manage the grant development cycle for foundation grant applications. Process will include working with Team Leaders to draft letters of intent and grant proposals, framing and editing proposals, developing presentations, managing correspondence, and writing interim and final reports;

·         Work with IMT finance staff to coordinate budget development and grant reporting;

·         Maintain grant records and manage the delivery of deadlines and reports;

·         Forge and strengthen relationships with the foundation community.

Corporate Relations

·         Research and identify prospective corporate partners who are aligned with IMT’s mission and programs. Work with Program Directors to identify specific prospects;

·         Cultivate and manage corporate relationships through dedicated sponsorship activities including events and projects, as well as general corporate contributions for IMT;

·         Maintain corporate funding, partnership, conference and event records and a calendar of related deadlines and reports;

·         Contribute to other priority projects as needed.

Qualifications and Skills

The successful candidate will be an experienced development professional with a minimum of five years fundraising experience in a nonprofit organization. In addition s/he will demonstrate:

·         Leadership: including interpersonal skills, strategic and critical thinking, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a desire to take initiative;

·         A proven record of success growing revenues from foundation and corporate donors;

·         Exceptional writing and oral communication skills, including grant and report writing and editing;

·         Exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to manage and meet multiple deadlines simultaneously;

·         Strong collaboration skills;

·         Strong attention to detail;

·         Ability to work in a dynamic, open office environment;

·         Enthusiasm, dedication, sense of humor, and drive to succeed;

·         Bachelor’s degree in relevant field;

·         Knowledge of environmental and/or energy efficiency issues and their associated funding communities is strongly preferred. 

Position Description

This is a Director level position. IMT Directors demonstrate:

  • Leadership regarding strategic direction of a program area.
  • Responsibility for all aspects of program management: reports, progress, goals, budget, includes development of program strategies
  • Management of a team:
    • Recruit, hire, develop and coach staff
    • Ensure team is aligned with goals and IMT strategy
  • Ability to analyze and edit data and demonstrate superior writing skills
  • Ability to oversee and meet multiple projects and deadlines.

Salary is commensurate with experience.
