Description

WASHINGTON, DC

COMMUNICATIONS

FULL-TIME

The Associate Director of Email will serve as Indivisible’s lead email strategist, working to engage and move 900,000 supporters to action via email. This is a senior role on our communications team. This person will supervise our email team and build and execute our small-dollar fundraising strategy.

The ideal candidate for this role is a digital storyteller with experience working on large email programs and an eagerness to build a successful political movement in response to the Trump Administration. You should have a strong interest in progressive advocacy (especially immigrant rights, health care, and economic justice) and electoral politics.

In 2017, the Indivisible email program delivered the policy resources and organizing toolkits to hundreds of thousands of people who defeated the repeal of the Affordable Care Act. We also raised nearly $3 million in small-dollar donations to fuel our grassroots movement. In 2018, we estimate our small-dollar fundraising program will be one-third of our budget. Our email list will also help build the blue wave by growing a base of virtual volunteers, connecting people to on-the-ground electoral activities, and preparing them to fight for bold, progressive policies in 2019.

We are hiring for this position immediately. This is a full time position with a salary range of $80,000 to $90,000 annually, commensurate with experience, plus benefits. This position reports to the Strategic Communications Director.

  • Oversee the strategy and implementation of our digital fundraising program including building projections, monitoring the program’s success and iterating on our work, and manage the cultivation and stewardship of small-dollar donors
  • Supervise and support the development of two digital staff including identifying leadership opportunities, managing for results, and working towards growth and promotion
  • Work across teams to build compelling, effective digital fundraising campaigns about our programmatic work
  • Ensure we’re implementing best practices for online advocacy and small-dollar fundraising
  • Serve as a trusted editor and collaborator on the communications team
  • Liaise with the development team to integrate small-dollar fundraising into our larger fundraising strategy
  • Liaise with the senior leadership team, finance team, and Co-Executive Directors to report out on fundraising results
  • Manage vendors as necessary

Required Qualifications

  • Seven or more years experience working in nonprofits, agencies, and/or campaigns managing and writing for email lists over 250,000 supporters
  • Two or more years experience managing full-time staff

  • Strong interpersonal skills, especially written and verbal communications
  • Understanding of the progressive digital advocacy and online fundraising landscape and best practices for digital programs
  • Experience with email systems (ActionKit, Blue State Digital, Action Network, Convio), online fundraising systems (ActBlue, Salesforce)
  • Cultural competency and experience talking and writing for many audiences about social justice issues, especially racial justice and immigrant rights
  • Attention to detail
  • Alignment on the core values and strategy of the Indivisible Project

Desired Qualifications

  • Basic HTML or CSS experience
  • Ability to create graphics through tools like Photoshop and Canva
  • Experience with digital campaigning
  • Digital ad management (Facebook ads, Google Grants, Care2 pledges, etc.)
  • Experience working in the immigrant rights, racial justice, or economic justice movements and/or understanding of federal policies around these issues

About the Indivisible Project

We’re building something new. We’re a progressive grassroots organization that began in the aftermath of Trump’s election and rapidly scaled nationwide, with thousands of volunteer-led local groups covering every state in the country. To support this movement, we’ve built an incredible team at the national level. We dream big, we support each other, and we have fun doing it.

We’re changing what’s politically possible. Indivisible is part of the powerful progressive movement reaction to Trump, fighting the racist, misogynistic, plutocratic, and authoritarian agenda trumpeted by Trump and the GOP congress. Don’t take our word for it; Indivisible has been featured on the Rachel Maddow show multiple times, as well as in the New York Times and in pretty much every other major news outlet in the country.

We’re building together. We’re building a new organization every day - a rare opportunity to model what we want to see in the world. We’re deeply committed to equity and building a diverse and inclusive organization.

We’re looking for you. If you want to fight for the soul of American democracy, there’s no better place to be than Indivisible. We’re looking for more team members who are passionate about resisting the Trump agenda and committed to getting results. It’s an exciting, fulfilling place if you’re someone who wants to fight fiercely for the progressive world we want to have.

Every one of us on the national team is here because we believe this movement is the best way to retake and build progressive power in this country. Does that ring true for you? If so, great - throw your hat in the ring to join our team. Let’s start #winning together.
