The Communications Associate an integral member of the Communications team, responsible for providing direct, substantive communications, research and administrative/management support to the Communications Director.  The Associate will also provide critical support in relationship management, by serving as a liaison with the communications resources of the Investment Partner organizations.   The role requires the Associate to use a “project management” approach to:  1) prioritize multiple demands; 2) coordinate key members of the team; 3) stay on task to advance the work; 4) ensure timely follow-up; and 5) “close” the loop on all critical assignments.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Communications Director, this position has four specific areas of responsibility in priority order: (i) outreach and communications; (ii) research; (iii) portfolio assessment; and (iv) administrative support.

Objectives

The following objectives have been outlined consistent with the position responsibilities above: 

Outreach and Communication

§  Taking lead responsibility for producing VPP’s e-newsletter, VPPnews

§  Managing updates to VPP’s website through a Drupal content management system (training provided)

§  Maintain relationships and seek opportunities to collaborate with communicators and leaders within our portfolio organizations

§  Drafting and updating content for multiple distribution channels: website, electronic newsletter, direct email communication, talking points for public speaking engagements, PowerPoint presentations, and print publications

§  Maintaining and updating  traditional media and social media lists and contacts

§  Assist with creation and production of print and other collaterals

§  Supporting with VPP’s social media efforts—twitter, video, and others as developed

§  Assisting with media requests

§  Responding to general inquiries.

Administrative:

§  Managing all electronic files related to collaterals (photos, videos, publications, etc)

§  Helping prepare collateral and presentation materials for meeting

§  Copyediting

§  Assisting with events as needed

§  Maintaining and updating electronic mailing lists. 

Qualifications and Requirements:

§  Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications, English or another related field and two years of work experience in media relations, public affairs, or campaign communications including all aspects of literature production process

§  Thorough knowledge of electronic and print media systems; knowledge of advertising techniques preferred

§  Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

§  Ability to take initiative and work independently

§  Ability to handle multiple "priority" projects simultaneously and meet established deadlines

§  Skilled in the use of personal computers including the Internet and MSOffice

§  Familiar with design platforms (indesign, photoshop, etc)

§  Skilled in performing pro-active social media outreach

§  Web design and management experience highly preferred
