The American Clean Skies Foundation (ACSF) is a Washington D.C. non-profit founded in 2007 to advance America's energy independence and a cleaner environment through expanded use of natural gas, renewables and efficiency. ACSF carries out its mission primarily by encouraging large scale fuel switching in the electric power sector based on innovative regulatory and business proposals; and promoting alternative fuel vehicles, especially natural gas powered vehicles, using public policy tools and demonstration projects. Both of these initiatives seek to catalyze change through targeted government interventions and entrepreneurial activity. ACSF also supports a wide range of educational and media programs, including white papers, conferences, workshops, films, and web sites, to advance its goals.
The American Clean Skies Foundation seeks a Public Outreach/Social Media Strategist to write and update copy for www.cleanskies.org and other ACSF supported websites.
ACSF seeks someone who is savvy about communicating science and comfortable with technology, knows basic HTML and can upload video and text via wordpress; the Public Outreach/Social Media Strategist will also write internal ACSF updates;
strategically manage social media especially Twitter; draft advertising copy or op eds, review video scripts, conduct web and photo research for publications, help conceive infographics; manage targeted lists and develop correspondence;
proofread and fact-check publications; reach out to partners and assure publications fulfillment; attend offsite meetings with partners; and provide events planning assistance - particularly for a new media awards program.
The Public Outreach/Social Media Strategist will report to the Director of Publications but will have the opportunity to collaborate with all members of the American Clean Skies Foundation team.
The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, creative and detail-oriented with multi-disciplinary vision and professionalism; have strong written and verbal communications skills;
have the ability to translate scientific concepts behind clean energy into accessible prose or talking points; be fluent in Excel, HTML, Slideshare and Twitter; have good judgment regarding "buzz" potential and newsworthiness of research and multimedia programs; have experience working with coalitions, think tanks, government or foundations' communications teams; have an interest or an academic background in environmental economics or energy policy and technology; have a Masters degree or at least three years professional experience in communications, publications, and web design.
