Ours to Change Mississippi (OTC) believes that Mississippi’s future depends on having an educated populus. We are working to ensure that Mississippi fully funds K-12 public education by 2020. In part by electing public officials who support funding K-12 education for all.  This long-term effort is committed to building an infrastructure that can also support other campaigns for the future of the state, including universal Pre-K.  OTC is seeking an Executive Director for this special work.  We are looking for someone who will lead OTC operations and help to develop and implement OTC’s strategies to achieve this mission.

 

Primary Roles and Responsibilities:

The Executive Director will be responsible for the following:

 

  • Develop and manage the overall strategies and personnel to support achievement of OTC’s mission, through non-partisan civic engagement of critical constituencies including young people, African Americans and women.
  • Develop plans with staff in a collaborative process, that support nonpartisan voter engagement programs, including organizing voter registration, voter mobilization, and issue education campaigns.
  • Lead OTC in developing innovative new approaches to civic engagement.
  • Drive capacity building projects through planning, executing, and undertaking post-project analysis.
  • Manage contractors, ensuring timelines are met with a high-quality product.
  • Monitor project progress, proactively identify potential problems, and build project teams to meet needs.
  • Supervise the development and implementation of metrics and evaluation for programs.
  • Assure and manage strong, effective communications across OTC project teams.
  • Interact with OTC partners and allies, respectfully engaging them in strategy development, execution, and post-project analysis.
  • Lead in producing timely narrative reports assessing the progress and impact of OTC’s civic engagement, including non-partisan voter registration and mobilization, as well as OTC’s overall strategies and work.
  • Perform all other duties and responsibilities as the organization’s needs to accomplish OTC’s mission and strategies.

 

Required Qualifications: 

The best candidates for this position should possess each of the following qualifications:

 

  • Five (5) years or more of work experience as a program or project manager successfully leading projects in civic engagement, voter registration and turnout, community organizing, advocacy campaigns, and/or political campaigns.
  • Substantial past work experience in building, leading, and working collaboratively within coalitions.
  • A willingness and ability to work long, irregular hours, as needed, and to travel regularly within Mississippi.
  • Excellent, demonstrated ability to effectively supervise colleagues, work well under pressure, manage and undertake detail oriented work, communicate effectively, and assure projects meet deadlines.
  • Proven ability to create and work collaboratively with a wide range or partner organizations.
  • Strong time management skills with ability to multi-task across projects.
  • Experience crafting and executing training or capacity building programs.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion and a passion for OTC values.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of Mississippi.
  • Experience identifying and analyzing trends, opportunities and obstacles to program success.
  • Familiarity with VAN, mapping software, and content management systems.

 

Compensation and Benefits:

The position of Executive Director is a full-time position, with salary and benefits commensurate with the position’s responsibilities and the person’s depth and range of relevant experience.
