Vice President for Development
Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund and Leadership Institute
This description of responsibilities should serve as a guide for the Vice President and will be reviewed annually to adjust for changes that are likely to occur.
Senior Management Responsibilities
The Vice President manages and implements the comprehensive development plan to achieve revenue targets for the Victory Fund and Leadership Institute on a monthly and annual basis. The VP will manage all elements of the development program, which includes Major Gifts, Events, Corporate and Foundation Relations, Candidate Bundling, Board Development, and Database Management. In addition, the VP is responsible for the following:
- VP participates as a member of the senior management team in developing strategic direction for the organization, annual operations, staff plans, and budget priorities. VP works in coordination with the Chief Financial Officer on annual plans, projections, and budget priorities. VP works in coordination with the Director of Campaign Services to prioritize the political goals of the Development Team.
- VP will be responsible for challenging the Development Team to successfully explore new, efficient and effective ways to increase both gross and net revenue.
- VP will provide counsel, recommendations, and suggestions to the senior management team to improve major donor fundraising consistent with the mission and values of the organization.
- VP is dedicated to increasing Victory’s donor pipeline through prospect research, and by personally cultivating relationships with major donors, prospects, and by managing relationships with corporate sponsors and foundations.
- VP directly supervises the six-member Development Team and ensures that all financial goals and deadlines are met. VP is responsible for interviewing, hiring and training direct reports. VP appraises performance, provides feedback, and mentors all staff to develop stronger fundraising skills. VP establishes a code of excellence for the Development Team in relation to timeliness, appropriateness, accuracy, donor cultivation, communication, and the execution of a fundraising plan.
- VP oversees corporate and foundation relations and ensures the grant proposals, grant reports, letters of inquiry, management of grantor relationships are maintained.
- VP works closely with the President and MGOs to engage Board members and the Victory Cabinet members in fundraising efforts.
- VP develops and ensures that donor stewardship programs are continuously implemented and improved on.
- VP is able and willing to assume direct fundraising responsibilities as needed.
Requirements: We are seeking a seasoned development professional with at least 7 years of experience in organizational or political fundraising. Some campaign experience a must. BA required.
