But, M+R is not just another public relations firm. We are a national public affairs firm that helps nonprofits, foundations and other organizations looking to make change and shine a spotlight on their issues, missions and brands. What sets us apart is that we offer strategic communications and aggressive media relations alongside of online fundraising and advocacy, government affairs and organizing, campaign planning and execution, and creative services. As a result, our communications division — which includes PR pros,
Hill veterans, and nonprofit insiders, all with substantial insight into policy and politics — knows how to put the best story forward and leverage online and offline tools in order
to earn media coverage, shape public dialogue, move policy, engage new supporters
and create lasting change.

While their issues vary widely, our clients share the distinction of being leading
voices in their fields, including The MacArthur Foundation, Save Darfur Coalition,
ACCION International, Smart Growth America, The Pew Charitable Trusts, Transportation for America and GlobalGiving.

We are looking for a seasoned, well-connected and high-energy public relations professional with a proven track record of client relations, staff management and new business success to join our growing communications team in the Washington, DC,
office.

M+R offers an exciting, fast-paced environment, one that encourages entrepreneurism and nurtures the growth of its leaders, whether established or emerging.
The successful candidate will support the communications department’s director in the management and growth of the division.

The ideal Vice President of Communications will possess proven strategic
communications thinking and planning abilities, leadership skills that can serve clients and guide staff, experience developing and overseeing public relations programs
as well as campaigns, a keen media relations sensibility and background, and a tested marketing acumen. Just as important, he or she will demonstrate the enthusiasm,
polish and dedication necessary to help grow our dynamic communications division.

More specifically, we are looking for a candidate with:

Minimum of 8–10 years of communications experience; prior PR agency, consulting,
or other client-facing experience required
Demonstrated client relations skills, including managing multiple clients, working successfully with clients through challenging or complex situations, overcoming obstacles, and positioning oneself as a trusted advisor with clients
Established business development background, including experience generating
leads, writing or overseeing proposal development and securing new client opportunities
Proven experience developing and managing budgets
Tested ability to craft effective media relations and communications strategies within
a public relations or campaign setting
Strong supervisory skills, including at least 4–5 years experience managing staff at different levels
Strong writing skills and a proven ability to produce excellent work product
within tight project timelines

Messaging and branding experience a major plus
Leadership experience with integrated campaigns also a plus
