Venture Philanthropy Partners (VPP) is a philanthropic investment organization that helps great leaders build strong, high-performing nonprofit institutions. It concentrates money, expertise, and personal contacts to improve the lives and boost the opportunities of children and youth of low-income families in the National Capital Region.
The Multimedia Communications Associate is an integral member of the Venture Philanthropy Partners Communications team.
The Associate is responsible for providing direct, substantive graphic, multimedia and administrative support to the Communications Director. He/she will assist on a number of design-related projects, such as creating visual assets for infographics, illustrations on marketing materials and presentation materials. This position requires an original thinker who is skilled at forming creative and strategic concepts and bringing them to life in a visual way.
The role requires the Associate to use a “project management” approach to: 1) prioritize multiple demands; 2) coordinate key members of the team; 3) stay on task to advance the work; 4) ensure timely follow-up; and 5) “close” the loop on all critical assignments.
The Associate will also provide critical administrative and relationship management support, by serving as a liaison with the communications resources of the Investment Partner organizations.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Communications Director, this position has 3 specific areas of responsibility: (i) design (ii) outreach (iii) administrative support.
Objectives
The following objectives have been outlined consistent with the position responsibilities above:
Design
- Design and production of print and web collateral including fliers, posters, stickers, mailers, event invitations, banners, web graphics, newsletters etc.
- Help produce short videos and graphics to inspire donors and prospects.
- Working with vendors as needed.
Outreach
Assist in supporting VPP’s main website, campaign websites and social networks. This includes:
- Creating and posting new content for Twitter, LinkedIn and our VPP website on a regular basis to maintain a high profile web presence for VPP;
- Manage day-to-day content updates for VPP website;
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues as they arise. Activate or trouble-shoot web site plug-ins, add-ons, widgets and other functions as necessary;
- Implement schedules, track and meet deadlines;
- Assisting in the website redesign process;
- Developing new campaign landing pages and websites as needed; and
- Researching and implementing other digital tools to use to engage our target audiences.
Developing targeted and effective email marketing campaigns. This includes:
- Loading emails and tracking and analyzing their effectiveness;
- Developing creative strategies to grow our list of member emails;
- Managing data within Sales Force, including imports and exports; and
- Taking lead responsibility for producing VPP’s e-newsletter, VPPnews and Investor Flash.
Regularly providing useful analytics on website traffic and email/social media performance. This includes:
- Analyzing data and preparing periodic reports;
- Providing recommendations based on analytics and implementing changes to our online strategy to improve our traffic and engagement;
- Monitoring VPP’s web/online communications trends;
- Working with vendors as needed.
Administrative:
- Maintain relationships and seek opportunities to collaborate with communicators and leaders among our Investment Partners;
- Maintaining and updating electronic mailing lists;
- Managing all electronic files related to collaterals (photos, videos, publications, etc.);
- Helping prepare collateral and presentation materials for meetings; and
- Assisting with events as needed.
Highly Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor of Arts degree in Graphic Design, Fine Arts, Journalism, Communications or another related field and/or one year of work/internship experience in campaign communications, graphic design and/or digital communications.
- Expertise with Adobe Creative Suite and/or similar design programs and Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of graphic design, concept development, layout, typography, color and preparation of print and digital designs for a range of mediums and output formats.
- Capable of incorporating feedback and direction.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Proven ability to build relationships and engage with people through online channels such as social media, email and web.
- Experience creating and maintaining online content in WordPress or other content management systems.
- Ability to interpret analytics and develop communications strategies based on those analytics.
- Ability to learn quickly, troubleshoot and come up with creative solutions to problems.
- Existing knowledge of HTML and CSS. Must at least know the basics and be willing to learn more as needed.
- Experience shooting and editing video and taking and editing good quality photos.
- Ability to work well with a team under the pressure of tight deadlines.
- Ability to take initiative and work independently.
- Strong interpersonal and ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
