Communities In Schools of the Nation’s Capital (CISNCAP) is looking for a dedicated and passionate Program Director to implement the programs of CISNCAP. CISNCAP is a network of dedicated professionals partnering with community stakeholders, public and private school personnel, families, and students to promote student success. CISNCAP surrounds students with a community of support services, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.
CISNCAP was established in 2004 as the Washington, DC, affiliate of Communities in Schools (CIS). Nationally, CIS works with approximately 3,200 public schools through 193 local affiliates and 14 state offices. Annually, CIS mobilizes 65,000 volunteers who donate more than 3 million hours of volunteer service. More than 2 million young people in 26 states and the District of Columbia have access to integrated student support services through CIS.
Through a school-based resource coordinator, CISNCAP provides interventions to improve student academic and social success by connecting students with community resources. CISNCAP partners with 4 schools in Ward 8, Garfield Elementary, Hart Middle, Johnson Middle, and Kramer Middle; and with Cardozo High School at Meyer and Shaw Middle School at Garnet-Patterson in Ward 1. The CIS program model focuses on drop-out prevention through promotion of the 5 Basics:
- a one-on-one relationship with a caring adult,
- a safe place to learn and grow,
- a healthy start and healthy future,
- a marketable skill upon graduation, and
- a chance to give back to peers and community.

JOB SUMMARY:
The Program Director manages the development, delivery, and overall operations of the CIS model at schools served by Communities In Schools of the Nation’s Capital (CISNCAP). Program Director hires, supervises, and supports the site coordinators who implement and evaluate programs at their assigned schools.
The Program Director holds a strategic organizational position that ensures overall success of CISNCAP through involvement in strategic planning, fundraising, and partnerships with sponsors, donors, school leaders, volunteers, and community stakeholders. In this role, he/she participates in organizational planning, program planning, event planning, strengthening public and private partnerships, and also serves as the CISNCAP representative on community coalitions and committees.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Services and Site Programs
- Provide leadership, direction, and support to CISNCAPs partner schools by listening to their needs and building strong and supportive relationships.
- Meet with school leadership a minimum of twice per year (or as needed) to monitor satisfaction with site plan and staff.
- Respond to school concerns, documenting improvement plans to be implemented.
- Assist with the development and implementation of CISNCAP’s strategic plan.
Management and Administration
- Assist with the development and implementation of CISNCAP’s strategic plan.
- Participate in administrative team meetings and decision-making processes.
- Build, lead, and supervise a site coordinator team that works closely with the CISNCAP Executive Director, school staff, families, volunteers, and community partners in the implementation of the CIS model.
- Ensure the completion of the annual school needs assessments for each site in the program.
- Manage the implementation of each school’s site operations plan based on the needs assessment.
- Guide site coordinators in development and implementation of the site plan, including:
- measurable objectives,
- procedures for delivering school/community-wide programs, class/group-wide programs, and targeted case management services,
- progress monitoring and service modifications as needed, and
- evaluation and documentation of site plan effectiveness.
- Manage implementation of the CIS systematic data collection plan to ensure accurate and current data for periodic and annual reports.
- Identify and incorporate local and national best practices that enhance delivery of the CIS model.
- Recruit, hire, and train site staff, contractors, practicum students, cooperative education students, AmeriCorps members on the CIS model.
- Conduct regular on-site visits throughout the year to provide support and supervision to school-based staff.
- Ensure the programs and services offered to sites meet or exceed expectations.
- Conduct staff performance reviews at mid-year and end-of-year.
Fiduciary, Fundraising, Public Relations
- Assist with public relations activities, including special events and publicity materials.
- Participate in fundraising, including identifying prospective sponsors and donors, developing professional relationships with them, and providing funding forecasts and reports.
- Generate and execute special event plans, and participate in agency special events and fundraising.
- Manage agency grant-funded projects, programs, and other revenue streams to ensure compliance.
- Develop and implement volunteer recruitment, recognition, and retention activities for CISNCAP.
- Promote positive relationships between and among CISNCAP personnel, community partners and key stakeholders.
QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:
- Masters Degree in Social Work
- Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers and the public
- Strategic planning, management and supervisory experience
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects
- Experience developing and evaluating programs
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, including recruiting and managing volunteers
- LICSW or equivalent social work licensure, or proof that licensure is currently being sought, is preferred
- Experience working with, or for, DCPS is preferred
- Fundraising and grant management experience is preferred
- Excellent computer skills
- Passion for working with students and schools
