The Director of Communications has the broad responsibility for planning, executing and evaluating a comprehensive communications strategy that furthers NextGen Climate’s missions to act politically to prevent climate disaster and preserve American prosperity.  

This position reports to NGC’s Chief Operating Officer, serves on NGC’s senior leadership team, and works closely with each department to ensure consistent and quality communications across the organization.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Develop and lead comprehensive strategic communications and press strategy for NextGen Climate

·         Oversee the development of internal and external content for consistent, effective messaging across all NGC channels

·         Collaborate with senior leadership on the development and execution of the communications strategy, and ensure that all work throughout the organization reflects this strategy

·         Foster and maintain relationships with national press corps and editorial boards

·         Brief, staff and manage principals’ open press events and interviews

·         Develop and oversee communications budget

·         Develop and manage editorial and content partnerships

·         Manage a robust communications operation

·         Manage vendors and consultants

BASIC REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICTIONS:  

·         Ten years of experience in communications and political communications, with at least three years in a director/management role

·         Excellent communication skills: writing, editing, listening and presenting

·         Strong track-record of managing multi-faceted political communications campaigns, including successful national campaign rollouts and developing earned and paid media strategies

·         Experience managing staff, internal programs and budgets

·         Experience selecting and effectively managing outside firms/consultants

·         Ability to foster a cooperative, team-oriented work environment

·         Ability to work collaboratively with other department heads and lead cross-department outreach initiatives

·         Advanced degree in communications, marketing, journalism or political science preferred

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature, and the like.
