Description

The National Partnership for Women and Families – a preeminent women’s rights and health advocacy organization with an $8 million budget and a $18 million dollar endowment – is looking for a senior-level professional to lead our Marketing and Communications team.

For more than four decades the National Partnership for Women & Families has fought for every major policy advance that has helped this nation’s women and families. Our mission is to foster a society in which every person can live with dignity and achieve economic security, workplaces are fair and family friendly, discrimination is a thing of the past, and everyone has access to quality, comprehensive, affordable health care that is patient- and family-centered. Founded in 1971 as the Women’s Legal Defense Fund, the National Partnership for Women & Families is a nonprofit, nonpartisan 501(c)3 organization located in Washington, DC.

The Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for developing and overseeing the strategies, messages and materials that promote the National Partnership for Women & Families as a powerful force for change and a leading expert on the organization’s core issues. Primary audiences include donors and potential donors, advocates, activists, state and national media, policy-makers, academics, and others. These efforts will continue to advance the National Partnership’s reputation as a highly influential institution and its public policy advocacy in its two program areas: Health Care (reproductive rights, maternal health, health care system and payment and delivery system reform, and the advancement of patient engagement and family-centered care) and Workplace (paid leave, paid sick days, pregnancy discrimination, equal pay, and economic security) as well as other issues that cut across program areas.

Specific responsibilities include developing and executing long- and short-range brand awareness strategies; coordinating with staff across the organization to plan initiatives and to create public education and messaging materials; overseeing the ongoing development and dissemination of media materials, including news releases, press statements, media advisories, oped pieces, and blog posts; managing occasional press events; supervising the design, production and publication of print and online materials, including annual reports, newsletters, other institutional publications and website updates; and developing annual strategic communications plans and timelines.

This senior staff member works closely with the president, vice presidents and other members of the senior leadership team, and supervises a staff of six to eight, including the communications and digital outreach teams, as well as consultants and vendors.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates should have at least 12 to 15 years of relevant experience, preferably at an advocacy organization, on a political campaign, and/or in a public official’s office. This experience must include in-depth knowledge about the public policy process and a substantial track record of writing and editing a variety of promotional, media, consumer and/or advocacy-related materials. Demonstrated planning and management ability is essential, as well as strong oral communication and writing/editing skills. Candidates should also be able to work well in situations with tight deadlines and multiple priorities. Familiarity with women’s, health care and/or other progressive public policy issues and with online fundraising and outreach and branding preferred. Salary commensurate with skills and experience; the National Partnership offers a generous benefits package.

TO APPLY: Please submit letter of interest, resume (including salary requirements), writing samples/links, and references to settleson@gmail.com (subject line: Marketing/Communications). Applications will only be accepted by email, and position will remain open until a qualified candidate is chosen. Compensation is competitive and includes a generous benefits package.
