EMILY’s List is seeking an Executive Director who is a skilled manager and extremely collaborative, is action-oriented and enjoys setting goals, designing and managing cross-functional projects, and experienced in building a strong staff culture.  S/he must have knowledge and experience with organizational leadership, management, finance, human resources, communications, and the political landscape.  S/he should be strategic, resourceful and an outstanding relationship builder who inspires collaboration and commitment.  And, s/he must have a passion for electing progressive women to public office. 

Reporting directly to the President, the Executive Director will oversee and manage the senior leadership team which includes: the Political Director, the Campaigns Director, the Communications Director, the Research Director, the Digital Director, the Development Director, and the Chief Administrative Officer. 

Working in close collaboration with the President and Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for the financial, program, and administrative management of the organization.

Responsibilities include: 

·         Overall leadership of the staff, in conjunction with the senior leadership team, to develop and implement short and long range plans and policies and other activities;

·         Setting and achieving goals for staff by providing strong day-to-day leadership and building a strong, collaborative, internal culture that serves to achieve EMILY’s List short and long range goals;

·         Lead the performance management process that measures and evaluates progress toward organizational goals;

·         Working with the Chief Administrative Officer, oversee the financial management and health of the organization, including the development, oversight and implementation of the annual budget;

·         In collaboration with the President, develop and implement a strategic plan;

·         Work with other organizations in the women’s community, progressive community, and the Democratic party and its committees;

·         Provide information, advice, and counsel to the President in the creation of policies, programs, and strategic direction of the organization;

·         Support all activities associated with the Board of Directors, including staffing for all Board and Committee meetings, meeting schedules, locations, development of agenda, and meeting materials;

·         Review and evaluate the results of program activities, ensuring that continuing contractual obligations are being fulfilled; allocating resources for greater program effectiveness and efficiency; and developing organizational and administrative policies and program objectives for Board consideration;

·         In collaboration with the senior leadership team, hiring and training employees; assist with planning, assigning and directing work plans; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems; and

·         Ensure the organization and its mission and programs are consistently presented with a strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders.

Qualifications include:

 

·         Minimum of 7 years of senior management experience.

·         Excellent organizational management skills including the ability to manage a large staff and budget, develop high-performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and work collaboratively across departments;

·         Experience working with a President/principal and a board of directors;

·         Ability to be persuasive with strong consensus-building skills;

·         Experience in a highly collaborative environment;

·         Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems and use sound judgment;

·         Knowledge of the principles and techniques of political campaigns, budget process, staff administration, community organizing, fiscal and organizational management, principles and practices of marketing, public relations, and digital media;

·         Ability to plan, direct and coordinate activities; negotiate and administer contracts; work with vendors, political and progressive entities, community groups and other organizations;

·         Communicate effectively in both written and oral forms;

·         Exhibit independent judgment in the development, implementation and evaluation of plans, procedures and policies;

·         Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to strategic planning and program development; and

·         High energy, integrity, sense of humor, and passion for the mission of EMILY’s List.
