Description

The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, www.cbpp.org, a national policy institute has a national reputation for its unique capacity to blend rigorous, timely analyses with activities designed to enable policymakers, the media, and other non-profit organizations to make use of its work.
The Center seeks an experienced development professional to direct fund raising for the State Fiscal Analysis Initiative (SFAI).
SFAI consists of 41 state-level organizations engaged in research and analysis to promote budget and tax policies that foster a more equitable and prosperous society. The primary goal of the SFAI network is to improve – in fiscally responsible and sustainable ways – the lives of low- and moderate-income people. The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities coordinates the SFAI network. SFAI is supported by national funders, and each SFAI organization is responsible for building a strong base of in-state funding as well.
Founded in 1993, the SFAI network has a consistent record of growth and success. The Council on Foundations presented its 2009 Award for Distinguished Grantmaking through Collaboration to SFAI’s funders in recognition of what the network has accomplished “to help broaden the debate around budget and tax policy through public education and the encouragement of civic engagement.”
The Director for State Network Fund Raising will be an integral part both of the Center’s State Fiscal Project and the Development Department teams to manage and serve as a resource for all aspects of fund raising for state fiscal policy work. The Director for State Network Fundraising will report directly to the Center’s Vice President for Institutional Advancement.
This individual will be responsible for working closely with SFAI organizations to help establish and maintain the skills and capacity to raise the resources they need in order to increase their scope and influence in state policy work. She or he will provide technical assistance and training to the SFAI groups such as helping groups with their fund-raising materials, research, and strategic plans, and holding workshops in DC and on site for staff and their boards.
The Director will have responsibility for communicating the mission and effectiveness of the SFAI network and its member groups to a range of national and regional foundation funders, and will be the point person for implementing plans for an initiative to raise additional funding to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the network.
Qualifications:
Candidates should have at least seven to 10 years of broad development experience. They should possess highly developed skills and experience in strategic planning, including foundation and major donor programs. The position requires strong oral and written communication skills, experience in training others in fund-raising best practices, fluency with fund-raising computer software, excellent interpersonal, teamwork and diplomacy skills, and a commitment to the Center’s and SFAI’s mission. Some travel is required.
Compensation:
Salary commensurate with experience; excellent benefits, including health insurance, dental and vision coverage, life and long-term disability insurance, retirement, MERP, DCAP, and generous vacation, sick leave, and holiday schedules.
To Apply:
Send resume with cover letter to: settleson@verizon.net, subject line: CBPP – fundraising
