The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, a non-profit policy institute, and the State Priorities Partnership, a network of 41 state-level organizations with which the Center collaborates frequently, conduct research and analysis on a range of fiscal and economic policies. The Center and network Partnership organizations have attained national reputations for conducting rigorous, timely analyses and using those analyses to shape public debate with particular attention to the effects of policies on low- and moderate-income families and individuals.
The Center is seeking an experienced campaign professional to help state network partners develop and execute outreach and engagement plans, build and support coalitions and partnerships, and share best practices and learnings related to policy debates, particularly those impacting the lives of low- and moderate- income families and communities. Through public education, issue campaigns, and dissemination of data, the Center’s state partner organizations can play an important role in informing these high stakes debates.
The Manager will:
· Support state-level activities to inform legislative and ballot campaigns on state budget and tax issues;
· Provide guidance and hands-on technical assistance to state partners and allies on strategies to shape important state budget and tax debates and policy outcomes;
· Help develop tailored materials that state groups can readily use in their public education efforts, ensuring that state organizations can access critical data and messaging strategy;
· Develop creative strategies to help state network organizations and coalitions deepen and expand their partnerships; and
· Lead opportunities to share best practices across states through peer-to-peer communications and training opportunities among outreach professionals at the state Partnership organizations.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree, a minimum of five years of advocacy experience, demonstrated ability to plan and execute effective issue campaigns, and a strong track record in supporting effective alliances and collaborations of diverse groups and interests.
Candidates also should have some familiarity with state budget, tax, and low-income issues; familiarity with state legislative processes; demonstrable experience with successful strategies to inform issue debates; a strong ability to synthesize complex information for multiple audiences; strong written and verbal communications skills; and exceptional organizational, planning, and interpersonal skills. This position is based in Washington, DC and requires travel.
