The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, a non-profit policy institute, conducts research and analysis on a range of fiscal and economic policies at the state and national levels.  The Center has attained a national reputation for conducting rigorous, timely analyses and using those analyses to shape public debates, with particular attention to the effects of policies on low- and moderate-income families and individuals.

The Center is seeking a campaign professional to engage key state partners and allies in critical federal budget, tax, and anti-poverty policy debates. Through public education, targeted issue campaigns, and dissemination of data, the Center’s state partner organizations and allies can play an important role in informing these high stakes debates.

The Manager will:

·         Develop targeted local campaign plans to help state partner organizations and allies deepen and expand their impact on federal issues;

·         Provide guidance and hands-on technical assistance to state partners and allies on strategies to shape important federal budget and tax debates and policy outcomes;

·         Help develop tailored materials that state groups can readily use in their public education efforts, ensuring that state organizations and key individuals can access critical data and messaging strategy;

·         Support state-level activities to inform targeted campaigns on federal budget, tax, and low-income family assistance policy issues; and

·         Lead opportunities to share best practices across states through peer-to-peer communications and training opportunities among partner groups engaged in federal policy debates at the state level.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree, a minimum of five years of advocacy experience, demonstrated ability to plan and execute effective issue campaigns, and a strong track record in supporting effective alliances and collaborations of diverse groups and interests.

Candidates also should have some familiarity with budget, tax, and low-income family support policies; familiarity with state and/or federal legislative processes; demonstrable experience with successful strategies to inform issue debates; a strong ability to synthesize complex information for multiple audiences; strong written and verbal communications skills; and exceptional organizational, planning, and interpersonal skills. This position is based in Washington, DC and requires travel.

Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience; excellent benefits, including health insurance and dental coverage, life and long-term disability insurance, retirement, MERP, DCAP; and generous vacation, sick leave, and holiday schedules.

Send resume and cover letter to settleson@verizon.net. Please include “CBPP SSM-federal” in the email subject line.  Resumes will be accepted until the position is filled.  Please, no calls.
