Catholics for Choice (CFC), a Washington, DC-based nonprofit that serves as a voice for Catholics who believe that the Catholic tradition supports a woman’s moral and legal right to follow her conscience in matters of sexuality and reproductive health, is looking for a talented Domestic Program Senior Associate. This is an opportunity to be part of a successful and fast-paced nonprofit with a close-knit staff of passionate individuals who share a commitment to reproductive choice, social justice and true religious liberty.
As a senior level program staff, the Domestic Program Senior Associate will work with the Director of Domestic Programs and other domestic program staff to reach and exceed annual program goals, focusing on strategic activities in federal and state policy, recruitment, engagement and mobilization of CFC network of activists and prochoice Catholic politicians and building and sustaining CFC’s relationship with collegial organizations.
Major responsibilities include:
- Promoting and strengthening CFC’s position as the leading voice of prochoice Catholic advocacy on the local, state and national level. Helping the director identify strategic opportunities to expand the reach and efficacy of CFC’s domestic program activities leveraging CFC’s unique voice, expertise, resources and strengths.
- Monitoring and analyzing policy developments, activities, statements, positions and programs in priority issue areas such as reproductive health and rights, church/state separation, faith-based funding initiatives, Catholic healthcare and conscience/refusal clauses and assist in the development of CFC’s activities and responses.
- Assisting the Director with defining CFC target areas, both geographically and culturally, for development and engagement of CFC’s network of activists and champions across the US at the local and state level. Working with other domestic program staff on community action and other activities to mobilize prochoice Catholics to promote CFC’s work.
- Working with other domestic program staff to support prochoice Catholic policymakers on CFC’s mission and policy goals at state and federal levels.
- Engaging and building relationships with key staff in collegial organizations throughout the country, amplifying CFC’s unique contributions to collaborative policy advocacy and seeking opportunities to expand the reach and efficacy of CFC’s domestic program activities.
- Working with other program staff to monitor opposition groups and the U.S. Catholic hierarchy and participate in outreach efforts to collaborate with colleagues, both faith-based and secular to respond and counteract.
- In coordination with all program staff, ensuring consistent and comprehensive information on various CFC constituencies and activities is maintained in the CFC database including contact information for collegial organizations and CFC’s networks of activists and policymakers. Regularly review for accuracy.
Position requirements include:
- Minimum of five years’ experience, with increasing level of responsibility in outreach, constituency building and/or policy advocacy or a commensurate combination of education and experience. Master’s Degree in a relevant field or JD preferred.
- Superior communications skills including excellent writing and editing skills and demonstrated ability to produce readable, accurate and engaging written products tailored to target audiences.
- Experience and comfort speaking publicly to a wide variety of audiences.
- Commitment to reproductive rights and the mission of CFC.
Desired/Preferred qualities:
- Substantial knowledge and understanding of Catholicism and reproductive health issues, and an ability to articulate that knowledge through CFC’s programs.
- Experience and proven creative approaches to utilizing traditional and new technologies to reach target audiences.
- Experience and proven facility speaking to and writing for press and media.
