The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities seeks a Web Associate for its dynamic and growing communications team.

The Center, a leading nonprofit policy institute, conducts research and analysis on budget, tax, health care, social insurance, and poverty policies at both the federal and state levels.  The Center has attained a national reputation for its unique capacity to blend credible, timely analyses with activities designed to enable policymakers and the media to use its work.  Widely cited by major mainstream and new media outlets, the Center maintains strong relationships with national and state press corps and bloggers, conducts briefings, and distributes a wide range of studies, issue briefs, blog posts, and multimedia content.  It is known for its ability to respond rapidly to breaking policy issues.

The Web Associate will be primarily responsible for converting Microsoft Word documents to standards-compliant HTML and posting them to our web site via Drupal.  The Web Associate will also be responsible for featuring this content on the web site’s landing pages and creating e-mail alerts via MailChimp for distribution to key audiences.  In addition, the web associate will update and maintain the Center’s sub-sites and blog via WordPress.

This individual will support the Center's communications division in its daily efforts to deliver robust content through the organization's core web site, which will be re-launched on the Drupal platform.  A successful candidate will be a highly-motivated professional with at least two years of experience posting content via Drupal and WordPress, as well as experience installing and deploying Drupal modules and WordPress plugins.  A strong foundation in HTML5 and CSS3 is preferable.  Proficiency in PHP and experience theming for Drupal and WordPress are also desired.  Often this individual will be the last set of eyes on content before it is posted on the Center's sites, so proofreading and writing skills are also valued for this position.
Responsibilities:

  • Daily posting to Drupal and WordPress sites
  • Making layout or structural changes to Drupal or WordPress sites, via edits to CSS or themes
  • Exercising good judgment in the selection of plugins or modules to extend site functionality as well as keeping track of their development (bug fixes/improvements)
  • Working closely with Center's Web Associate to modify or enhance existing Center sites and developing new sub-sites on the Drupal and WordPress platforms
  • Qualifications:
  • At least two years experience working with Drupal and WordPress including posting, plugin/module integration, and theming
  • Mastery of HTML and CSS; proficiency authoring in a robust code editor such as Dreamweaver
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat Pro
  • Thorough understanding of modern SEO principles
  • Experience working with social media and social media APIs
  • Experience in PHP programming; proficiency in javascript is desirable as well, but not required
  • Familiarity with Google Analytics
  • Familiarity with video and audio file formats and codecs; proficiency optimizing/compressing video and audio files
  • Knowledge of section 508 guidelines
  • Accuracy and attention to detail are essential, as are good interpersonal skills, taking initiative, creative problem-solving, meeting deadlines, and working well in a fast-paced team environment
  • Interest in public policy or media relations is a plus

Compensation:

Salary commensurate with experience; excellent benefits, including health insurance, dental and vision care,  life and long-term disability insurance; retirement; MERP; DCAP; and generous vacation, sick leave, and holiday schedules.

To apply: Send resume and cover letter to settleson@verizon.net, subject line:  CBPP Web Associate.
