Megaphone Strategies is a new social justice PR firm run for purpose, not profit. Megaphone works with front-line communities, political candidates, and impactful non-profits to break through and win on issues ranging from racial justice to climate and LGBTQ rights to electoral campaigns. We are looking for a talented media strategist to join our team at the manager or director level.

Megaphone has a talented and diverse team run by women and people of color, and we are looking for like-minded folks with experience managing diverse teams and projects to success.

Position: Media Strategist -- at the Account Manager or Director level (Salary range: $65-90,000/ year depending on level and experience.)

  • Top-notch writers -- able to churn out an opinion piece for a national paper or a quick quote in a crisis.

  • Adept communicators -- people who can make connections easily by phone, in writing, or in person.
  • News junkies -- you check the news constantly, and love your local paper, new podcasts, and tuning into cable news whether it’s CNN or Univision.
  • Talented researchers -- adept with finding everything you need online, finding the perfect person for the perfect story, and all-things google docs.
  • Critical thinkers -- able to hear a big idea and boil it down into a few sentences.

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing client teams to success.
  • Providing top-notch short and long term strategic guidance to diverse social justice clients on how to break through in a crowded media cycle.
  • Securing top-notch media placements across all platforms -- print, radio, tv, online, etc.
  • Building up Megaphone to better serve in it’s mission of using PR as a tool to diversify media and the progressive movement.
  • Managing staff on a project and/or long-term basis, depending on the candidate.
  • Relationship building with partners, reporters, and fellow staff.
  • Writing drafts of diverse press materials ranging from opinion pieces to statements and memos to communications plans.

Experience:

  • 5-10 (or more) years in a combination of social justice, politics, and communications.
    • At least 3 of those years in media relations specifically.
  • Work experience in one or more of the following issue areas: criminal justice reform, climate change, environment, racial justice, economic justice, environmental justice.
  • Non-profit experience a plus.
  • PR firm experience is a plus.
  • Political campaign or Congressional experience is a plus.
  • Spanish language skills are a plus.
