and Pipeline programs work with thousands of members to drive policy solutions at the local level; and the FDR
Library maintains the historic legacy Inspired by Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt’s drive to redress inequality in our nation. Our programs work together to build a New Deal for the 21st century.
Reporting to the President and CEO, the Chief Operating Officer serves as the internal leader for performance
management and culture, oversees the activities of the program and communications functions and manages
hiring and onboarding new staff and general office administration. The COO will work in close partnership with the
CEO on all aspects of management and institutional development.
Serve as the internal leader for performance management and culture
Coordinate the annual operations plan and budget
Lead the performance management process that measures and evaluates progress to goals for
the organization
Set and achieve goals for staff engagement: provide a strong day-to-day leadership presence and
build a strong internal culture that serves to achieve Roosevelt’s aims in the short and long term
Manage program team to set and achieve measurable goals aligned to our vision and mission
Serve as the chief thought partner to the President and CEO on questions of programmatic vision
and direction
Manage communications team to set and achieve measurable goals aligned to Roosevelt vision
and mission
Ensure alignment between programs and communications strategy and execution
Ensure all Roosevelt materials uphold its brand
Advise the President and CEO on questions of brand, communications strategy, and partnership
development
Manage hiring and onboarding new staff
In partnership with the President and CEO, determine staffing needs
Develop strong hiring processes to assess fit with those needs
In partnership with managers, ensure a strong onboarding and goal setting process with new
staff
Manage office administration
o Ensure staff have the materials and equipment to perform their jobs well, including managing
process for technology and communications upgrades as needed
The ideal candidate for this role is an operations and management standout who is extremely action-oriented and
enjoys setting goals, designing and managing cross-functional projects and processes, building staff culture and
ultimately doing whatever it takes to achieve results. Specifically, we seek someone with:
At least 5 years experience in a senior management role, preferably one with cross-functional
responsibility
History of setting and achieving ambitious organizational goals and proven ability to manage goal setting
and operational planning processes to strong effect
Exceptional leadership qualities; proven ability to lead diverse groups and build positive, high-performing
culture
Excellent judgment when problem solving and working with others
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
Experience building and managing budgets
